Tales from Limbo 1

Saphire’s symbol

The day Saphire received her symbol, she accidentally blew up her family’s house. At a young age, her parents were killed by chaos reapers and so she was left all alone with only a maid that works for her family. She stayed to look after Saphire on her own. Arriving home after some shopping and seeing a destroyed house, the maid panicked and tried to search for Saphire. Lucky for her, she was found unharmed but was unable to move.

Many reapers were worried as they thought that it was another attack from a chaos reaper. A bunch of soul reapers gathered around with their scythes in hand. However, this was when Wisdom arrived. Everyone was relieved when he came to check on the situation. At this point in time, the grim reaper was till alive and the only two elemental reapers were Wisdom and Mikeal.

Checking around the destroyed house, Wisdom spotted a maid scolding Saphire who still couldn’t move. Using his ‘sight’, he was able to determine that the cause of the destruction was done by Saphire. She turned her head, seeing someone approaching and this was how Saphire and Wisdom first met. After hearing about Saphire’s circumstances from the maid, Wisdom decided to help them by letting them stay at the grim reaper’s mansion.

“Is there a reason why you’re taking them in?” asked the grim reaper. “She has great potential and with that symbol of hers, I believe that she has what it takes to become an elemental reaper.” said Wisdom. “Is that the only reason?” “I guess it’s also because I can’t help but see how lonely she is.” The grim reaper agreed to let them stay and overtime, Wisdom taught Saphire how to better use her symbol. She was always happy and had a fun personality that made everyone smile. Wisdom also discovered that she was gifted with a high intellect. Searching around her destroyed home, he discovered that she had built a lab in her room that was filled with lots of inventions. Pretty soon, she became known as the smartest reaper in Limbo.

During one of her breaks from training, she bumped into a tired looking reaper that was about the same age as her. This reaper, was Death. She tried to have some fun and play with him but he would always ignore her which made her angry. He was also taking some training lessons from Wisdom and the two became rivals for a time. Even with the help of her symbol, Saphire lost every single duel with Death. She was sad at these times and Wisdom would always comfort her, which made her see Wisdom as a father figure.

However, the good times did not last. On a shopping trip Saphire had with her maid who she sees as her mother figure, a particularly strong monster appeared, wreaking havoc and killing reapers. Saphire was a soul reaper at this point and she brought out her scythe to try and save everyone. As the monster released a powerful attack, Saphire had a hard time defending herself against it. She tried to use her symbol to release an even more powerful attack but what she didn’t realize, was that she used too much power.

Not only did she completely destroy the monster but also her surroundings as well. The buildings and even a few reapers in the area were caught in her attack and suffered some heavy injuries. Saphire’s maid who was next to her however, suffered the most damage and died on the spot.

Saphire could only stare at what she had done. Her sadness and agony caused her symbol to activate to it’s fullest, causing a wave of destruction to spread throughout Limbo. This event was the cause of everyone fearing her. The only one not affected by it was Wisdom who appeared before her. He gave her a tight hug to comfort her. Tears then rolled down her face as she cried her heart out.

Saphire held herself in her room for the next few months. The only one she allowed to see her was Wisdom. One day however, someone else came into her room. Saphire turned in anger after realizing it wasn’t Wisdom but seeing that it was her maid, she shot up in surprise, though she quickly noticed that it wasn’t really her. Wisdom then came into her room and told her what she is. “She’s a Golem. I sculpted her to resemble your maid as best I could and this was the final result. Her core is self sustaining so she can basically live forever.” said Wisdom.

He then looked at her and saw that she was stunned. “I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have done this. I should’ve asked you first.” said Wisdom. But as he was about to leave, Saphire grabbed his hand. “No. I love her.” Saphire said as tears of happiness filled her eyes and she leaned in to hug both the Golem and Wisdom.

Many years passed and Saphire was now seating at the dining table of the mansion with the rest of the elemental reapers, enjoying her meal. She was truly happy having everyone there with her. What she didn’t notice though, was the Golem maid smiling as she saw how happy Saphire was.

The extra mask

It has been a full hundred years since Limbo was created and Wisdom had tried everything to keep his power in check as it was getting too much for Limbo. The longer he lets his power out, the weaker Limbo gets. “If only I had my bracelet with me.” said Wisdom as he sighed. He tried to make a few objects that could hold his power but they broke the moment he puts them on. “Uh… need some help?” asked the first grim reaper. “Not unless you know of a way I can contain all my power.”

“How about wearing a suit of armor?” the first grim reaper said jokingly. “That’s it!” exclaimed Wisdom. “You’re gonna wear a suit of armor?” “Yeah, why not. I could be like the knight reaper. Sounds cool, right?” the first grim reaper gave Wisdom a questionable look. “It’ll be fine. Trust me.”

And so, for the next few years, Wisdom wore a suit of armor at all times. He was getting weird looks from the other reapers as the first thing they noticed was that he had an awkward way of moving in it. The first elemental reaper group were embarrassed as they were always seen with him. Especially the first grim reaper couldn’t help but hide his face.

As time went on though, Wisdom found a better way to keep his power in check with a smaller object. This was how his first mask was made. The moment he puts it on, his power was able to be contained. Wisdom was happy with this result, though everyone did find the mask’s design weird at first. Over time though, they got used to it. The only problem was that he couldn’t eat a regular meal without releasing a bit of power, causing the entirety of Limbo to shake.

Eventually, a crack appeared on the mask and Wisdom was forced to make a new one that could hold more of his power. He did just that and this was the mask he currently wore. As for the previous mask, since it contained part of his power, he couldn’t just get rid of it so he made a special vault to contain it and whatever dangerous relics that they find over the years. It is said that if anyone puts on Wisdom’s first mask, they would be able to use whatever power that is stored within. A power strong enough to break the world apart.

Envy and Sloth’s trip

“Come on you two, it’s your turn.” said Greed as he stood over both Envy and Sloth who were both laying on the sofa, doing nothing. “Do we really have to?” Sloth asked as she couldn’t even be bothered to turn to face him. “You two said that you would do it weeks ago.” “Ugh… fine.” Sloth then got up and made her way out of the house with Envy following her.

Both of them arrived at the Terra gate where Death was waiting for them. “Are you two really up for this?” asked Death as he stared at both of them. Sloth gave him a thumbs up while Envy timidly nodded. “Alright then.” Death then opened the gate and the two walked through. A portal opened up in a grassy field with the night sky showing stars above. Two other individuals were there waiting for Envy and Sloth.

“Envy, Sloth, so good to see you two.” said one of them. “Nice to see you too, Diligence, Kindness.” “How many times do I have to say it. You can just call me Kind.” said the other individual but Sloth then gave him a weird look. “Yeah… no. So, are we going or not?” Kindness sighed and gestured at the direction they needed to go. “This way then.” The group walked over and arrived at a giant castle with knights guarding the entrance. Diligence walked over to one of them and after showing him a scroll she had on her, the group was allowed entry into the castle.

Envy walked nervously as she sees all the humans around her. Sloth couldn’t care less about any of them and continued walking till the group stopped in front of a king. The two virtues bowed before him while the sins begrudgingly did the same. “I humbly welcome the representatives of both Paradis and Purgatory to my son’s wedding.” said the king as all the humans around him applauded. “Go ahead and mingle as much as you’d like. The ceremony will begin soon.” As the king said that, Sloth immediately made her way to a table and rested her head on it while Envy timidly walks over to the buffet table.

Diligence then joined Sloth. “Why are we even here?” Sloth asked. “To attend a wedding, of course.” said Diligence. “Yeah, but why though?” “King Aduim is the first human king. He is considered to be the representative of Terra. He is important. Plus, and also most importantly, he’s also friends with Wisdom.” Sloth sighed as she lifted her head up. “Yeah, that makes sense. I’m guessing there will also be some trouble later?” “Possibly.” Diligence then gave Sloth a serious and worried look. “When you need me, just yell. But in the meantime.” Sloth then rested her head on the table again and immediately went to sleep. “Same as always, I see.”

The ceremony started and everyone was happily celebrating that they didn’t notice the large group of assassins approaching the castle. Their task is to kill the entire royal family. There were about a dozen of them and they moved through the shadows to avoid being seen by the castle guards. They split up into two groups and sneaked around, with one group arriving on one side of the doors of the hall that held the ceremony while the other group arrived on the opposite side. They could hear the joy and laughter of the people inside.

As both sides burst in at the same time, they were shocked to see that the hall was completely empty. Standing at the center though, was Diligence. “You didn’t think it would be that easy, did you?” she said as she brought out a giant hammer. A few of the assassins rushed towards her, thinking that she won’t be able to hit them but with one swing of her weapon, she was able to blow all the assassins into another empty room where Envy was waiting for them. The assassins tried to run away but Envy was faster and one by one, she slit their throats, killing them. A few did survive but were on the verge of death. That was when Kindness approach them. A cloak he was wearing hovered over their bodies, both the dead and the dying and as he lifted it up, the bodies and blood on the floor were gone, making the place spotless.

The whole thing wasn’t done yet as the leader of the assassins was still alive and this time, he arrived outside the actual ceremony hall. As he was about to enter, Sloth opened her eyes and a translucent giant appeared in front of him. The assassin panicked and wanted to run but he was quickly grabbed and with one squeeze from the giant’s hand, the assassin was dead. The four then regrouped with each other and entered the hall just in time to see the bride and groom kissing each other. They clapped and congratulated the young happy couple.

After the wedding, the king walked over to say his goodbyes to the group. “Well, it was nice having you all here. And thank you for getting rid of some rude trespassers.” said the king as he winked at them. “We were happy to be of help to you.” said Diligence “Can we go now?” said Sloth. “Sloth, don’t be so rude.” The king then started laughing.

After chatting for a few more minutes, the group left with the king and his family waving to them in the distance. “That was fun, wasn’t it?” asked kindness. “At least it wasn’t all boring.” said Sloth as she gave a small smile.

The first elemental reaper

Most reapers would think that Wisdom was the first elemental reaper but they are sadly wrong. Wisdom didn’t become an elemental reaper until much later. The first elemental reaper was a reaper named Faine. He was a reaper that saves anyone in danger. Regardless if he was seriously injured in the process. The first grim reaper and Wisdom saw potential in him and decided to give him a chance.

The first was training that was done by Wisdom. Faine was able to hold his own fairly well but Wisdom was holding back as much as he could. Plus his armor did get in the way of him doing any powerful attacks. Once he reached what was considered the peak of strength, He was then given a trial of the elements to see if he had what it takes to control them. He failed the first time. Then the second and the third and so on. Only on the tenth try was he successfully able to make the elements bend to his will.

Once he passed the trial, Wisdom took a bit of power from the core and made several different elemental orbs. These were then put into Faine’s body where he was then given the power of all the elements. As Limbo’s first protector, everyone looked to him as if he were a guardian angel, watching over and protecting them. Every battle he fought against monsters and chaos reapers, he was able to win them all.

He was helped on occasion by Wisdom and other fellow soul reapers and over time, the first grim reaper formed a special reaper unit that will officially protect Limbo with Faine as their leader. They were able to stop many foes but one was able to take them on by himself. Of course, this was referring to Chaos. Faine had fought Chaos alone before but he proved too much for him and he had to flee before he was killed by him. This was the only loss he ever took and others don’t blame him for it as Chaos was an entirely different enemy altogether.

On the day when the entire group were on their way to kill Chaos as at the time, he didn’t have much chaos reapers with him, that was the day of a terrible massacre. After a fierce battle, they were able to corner Chaos but this was a trap as he had placed a barrier around them and a monster that he had with him. This particular monster morphed continuously, not taking a single shape or form. The tragedy struck when one of the soul reapers was easily killed by the monster when it ran up and bit his neck, instantly killing him.

The monster was both immortal and invincible and could not be stopped as the more it fed, the stronger it got. The entire group was said to have been killed by that one monster. Well, most of them anyway as Faine, the only survivor was able to break the barrier but only after the rest of the soul reapers have died. He was saddened by the loss of his team, his friends but he didn’t have time to mourn them as the monster lunged forward at him. As it sniffed him, the monster winced. It then ran pass him and continued on.

Faine realized too late that the monster was now on it’s way to Limbo. He started to chase after it and when the monster reached an empty field outside of Limbo, Faine struck it’s back, forcing it to stay in the field. For some reason, the monster was more affected by elemental attacks than regular ones. Faine stood before the monster, ready to face against it to protect all the inhabitants of Limbo. As their battle went on, Wisdom, watching from afar, noticed that Faine’s body was showing cracks and that his body was reaching it’s limits.

He quickly flew towards the direction of the battle to try and help but Faine held his hand out and made a barrier to stop him from interfering. Faine looked back at Wisdom and smiled, thanking him for everything he had done for him. With his body glowing white, Faine let out every last bit of elemental power he had and turned the entire empty field into a forest with black trees and white leafs. The monster was then fused with the forest itself, unable to die and was feeling every bit of agony as it’s body was continuously being pulled apart over and over again as it tries it’s hardest to reform back and break free. As for Faine, his body became the life force for the forest so that it can never die, being a seal that traps the monster inside forever.

Nature and Wisdom

The first time they met was in the first meeting of the four realms. Many individuals were present at the time and when Nature first saw Wisdom, she found it strange that even though it was her first time seeing him, she immediately knew who he was.

Her hair then turned a bright pink which was noticed by all and she looked down in embarrassment. After the meeting, she wanted to walk over and at least talk to him but he was busy discussing something with his fellow elemental reapers and so she couldn’t meet him.

That is, until Ai noticed her and gestured Wisdom to look over and and as he locked eyes with her, he smiled. The look he gave her was one of familiarity, like he knew her. Once he was done talking with the elemental reapers, he walked over to meet Nature. “Hi.” Nature said nervously. “Hello.” said Wisdom. “This may sound a bit odd but have we met before somewhere?” Wisdom didn’t answer but then the ring that Nature had on suddenly glowed and as she looked to him, she gave a warm smile.
